Steel & Timber Calgary, AB, Canada
During the summer of 2014, Calgary ’s Edworthy Park was a convenient place to jam. What banjo player Nathan H-Thompson and guitarist Ben Rogalsky didn’t expect, was for passers-by to take interest in their music and start giving them money. As the coins and album requests added up, these accidental buskers decided to take this seriously and Steel & Timber was born. Within a short time, their energetic performances earned them invitations to farmers markets, festivals, charity events, and private functions in Calgary and surrounding area. In March 2015, the trio released their debut, Home Brew, which boosted their popularity and allowed them to become regional finalists in CBC Searchlight 2015.
The following years brought continued success for Steel & Timber. Highlights have included the City of Calgary’s, Junos on the C-Train media kick-off, the Rosebud Folk Festival, High River Folk Club season kick off, the Southern Alberta Music Festival, and the 2017 Lilac Festival in Calgary. Steel & Timber’s first studio release “Everything You Own,” was released in the spring of 2017.
Steel & Timber’s sound could be classified as alternative folk and roots. Influenced by groups like the Avett Brothers, the Strumbellas, and Josh Ritter, Steel & Timber has found a sound that is exciting, accessible, and makes people dance!
