Tina Mali London, United Kingdom
If Alice in Wonderland would sing...
Tina Mali creates atmospheric soundscapes that invite her listeners to explore fantastical new worlds. Her cinematic instrumentalisation encourages childlike curiosity, whilst her lyrics are thought provoking, tugging at our consciousness to reflect upon and take responsibility for the patterns and prejudices that prevent us from discovering the magic that might be possible. Tina’s voice is similarly ethereal and commanding, combining her dynamic use of range with rich, bewitching tone.
Tina Mali is also a film music composer and wrote parts of the soundtrack for the film Salome written and directed by Kevin Bisbangian.
Tina has started to produce her music and received excellent reviews with her first album Roots in a Torrent in HotPress by Jackie Hayden:
'Here again we have an artist brave enough to look beyond the obvious genre formulae. We need more of them.'
Her new EP tells the story of broken love, emotional destruction, and the choice to channel loss into discovery, and use it as a catalyst for change and personal growth. Tina addresses the importance of letting go of the image we have of ourselves, so we can truly inhabit our own existence, reminding us that life is about the drive to stand up and live our dream no matter how far down the rabbit hole we have fallen.
Tina draws inspiration from a broad range of influences; with family in various countries she has developed a diverse love of music and culture. Her musical style has elements reminiscent of Kate Bush, Björk, Emeli Sandé and Bat for Lashes.
She has performed on many stages with internationally acclaimed artists, and also won a prestigious Amadeus Music Award prior to developing her current project. Her song ‘Don’t Be Afraid Dad’ was chosen for Kevin Bisbangian’s film ‘Salome’ which was nominated at the Cannes Festival, and won both the Tenerife Film Award and the Madrid Film Award in 2015.
Tina’s first EP Fool The Clown has been well received, and her upcoming video for
Chasing Yesterday was shot in New York a couple of months ago.
The live line-up is drums, bass, keyboard and vocals. Her new EP Moving Closer will be out online soon.
The launch will be in Kyoto FSN Bar on 10/28 at 9pm.
