East Row Rabble Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia

East Row Rabble delivers a slick mix of funk, ska, blues and soul with heavenly horn lines that will get your booty shakin' and your feet shuffling. Addressing a mixture of world issues and daily curiosities, Ben Drysdale’s songs explore the many, varied, and often conflicting elements of any situation with honesty, hope, and a little cheekiness.

The Rabble’s debut funk and soul track “Strawberries & Cream” is a perfect example of the blending of these approaches to writing. Originally inspired by a red and white polka dot bra, “Strawberries” evolved into a song about choosing what you love, loving what you chose, and accepting others’ choices. Since its release in March the song has been picked up on radio stations in NSW, SA, VIC, TAS, ACT, and QLD.

After playing around Canberra and the East Coast of Australia in a number of acts (most recently Beth n Ben) over the last 12 years, Drysdale has now launched this new dream outfit with some of his favourite players from Brass Knuckle Brass Band, Three Quarters Hazel, Moochers Inc, and After Hollywood. The band was named East Row Rabble as a tip of the hat to one of Canberra’s longest running live music venues where most of the members cut their musical teeth, The Phoenix, which is situated on East Row and renowned for its “alternative” patronage.

Though East Row Rabble itself is relatively new, audiences and bookers alike have responded in recognition of the collective history and talent of its members, packing the dance floor at every gig. The Rabble's first performance was on stage 88 at Floriade in 2015, followed shortly after by the sold out official band launch. Since then the band has been consistently performing around Canberra and are planning on writing and recording their debut album for the summer of 2016.
