DC hardcore was a tight scene; most bands formed via Dischord-orbit friendships, not classifieds. But MRR and Flipside connected scenes across the country, and a few key recruitments happened in their back pages — Dave Grohl answered a Scream ad in MRR before Nirvana, Government Issue cycled through bassists by way of Flipside. Sparser than the British weeklies wing by design; this is the museum being honest about how the scene actually worked.
